October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer throughout her lifetime? Or that an estimated 281,550 new cases are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S. in 2021 alone?

These statistics underscore the importance of regular mammograms for early detection and successful treatment.

Here at Alliance Imaging, we offer Enhanced 3D Mammograms as a standard in our proactive approach to making a significant difference in your health outcomes.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. If you are due for a mammogram or are 40+ and have never had one, please reach out. Patients can contact us to schedule a mammogram without a referral: 320-255-6530

What to Expect

Health History Assessment

One of our experienced Mammographers will ask you a few short but important questions about your health history, including any previous breast surgeries, family history of cancer, or any changes you might have noticed in your breasts.

This is to ensure we have all the necessary information to accurately interpret your results.

Preparation

You'll be asked to disrobe from the waist up and change into our comfortable gowns. We recommend not wearing any deodorant, perfume, or powder on the day of your appointment as these can interfere with the clarity of our images.

The Mammogram Procedure

Our specially-trained technologist will position your breast between two plates on our mammography unit. A short, low-dose x-ray is then used to capture images of your breast tissue.

Compression Importance

Compression helps to produce clearer images by spreading out the breast tissue, reducing the amount of radiation needed, and preventing motion that can blur the result. While it may cause you some discomfort, it shouldn't be overly painful. We are trained to use as much compression as necessary to get that clear image--all while ensuring your comfort.

Number of Images

A typical screening consists of two to three images of each breast. The exact number can vary based on factors such as the size of the breasts and any specific areas that need to be examined more closely.

Duration of the Procedure

From start to finish, including the actual imaging process, and any additional images (if necessary), it will only take you about 15 minutes.
